Greetings...

When you get to be a certain age, (like the one I'm at right now),
looking back and remembering various things from the past, your
childhood in particular becomes a regular occurence. It might be
because of the state of the world today and the sadness for the
youth of today because they dom't even know what their lives are
missing even though most of them have much more "stuff" than we ever =
did...

Sometimes, "stuff" is less important than a way of life. My cousin
= sent me an email with some amusing tid-bits of days gone by and I
thought I'd share some of them with you. Feel free to jump on the blogs=

Remember the ugly gym suits that females had to wear in gym class?

(At least there WAS gym classes. We may have hated gym, but we got
to burn off some energy and burn some calories which today's generation=
need)


It took time for the TV to warm up...

(That wouldn't work today, we get nervous when we can't connect instantly=
to the Internet and flip channels a mile a minute. Heck, how many people=
actually get up to change a channel anymore? I remember being my dad's
= "remote control" "Put channel 2 on, put channel 5 on, Make it a lit= tle
louder")...

Your mom wore nylons that were attached with garter belts...

(Who knew that moms would be the object of men's fantasies 40 years later= ?)

When you went to the gas station for gas, You got your windshield cleaned= ,
oil checked, and gas pumped, without asking, all for free, every time? An= d
you didn't pay for air? And, you got trading stamps to boot?

Being sent to the principal's office was nothing compared to the fate tha= t

awaited the student at home?

(Schools and parents worked together for the success of the child. Parent= s
didn't look at a teacher as their personal babysitter whose job was to
= teach kids things they should be taught before getting to school)...

we were in fear for our lives, but it wasn't because of drive-by shooting= s,

drugs, gangs, etc. Our parents and grandparents were a much bigger threat= !
But we survived because their love was greater than the threat...

(All it took for most of us was..."the look")...

(We played in the dirt, drank from the hose, rode our friends on the
handle bars of our bikes, got to play "kick the can" outside while it=
was dark, played outside for hours and didn't want to come inside until=
the last possible moment. Yep, things have changed, but which kids
really seem to be missing out?)

Hope you enjoyed this sentimental journey, it made me smile and made me s= ad
at the same time...
