Kanye West sued for sampling

The children of the late songwriter David Pryor are suing U.S. rapper Kanye West for allegedly sampling one of Pryor's songs without permission, documents show. Trena Steward and Lorenzo Pryor allege West used part of their father's 1974 song "Bumpin' Bus Stop?" in his 2005 hit "Gold Digger," TMZ reported Monday. Steward and Pryor have asked a judge to stop the sale of West's 8-year-old record. They also are seeking unspecified damages, the celebrity news website said.

Michael J. Fox talks career longevity

Actor Michael J. Fox jokes about how his successful career, which took off in the 1980s, has landed him on the covers of magazines from Teen Beat to AARP. Fox, 51, is best known for his work in the sitcoms "Family Ties" and "Spin City," as well as in the "Back to the Future" film franchise. Although he took a break from starring on television after he announced in 1998 he was suffering from Parkinson's disease, he has had several memorable guest spots on established shows and is now gearing up to star in a new, as-yet-unnamed NBC comedy series about a New York news anchorman, whose family and career is impacted by Parkinson's. Asked about his career longevity and recent appearance on the cover of AARP, a magazine aimed at the 50 and older set, Fox told "Access Hollywood: "I went from Teen Beat and Tiger Beat... to AARP. There's some great tips about colon health!" Talking about why he is willing to make a show, which hits so close to home, he said: "Well, I don't have a choice... But my personal life -- you can sit and project out and say, 'Oh, I'm going to have this and it's going to be like this and I won't be able to do that.' But it's much more about right now. 'What can I do right now?' Right? I just thought, 'I love to do this and as much as anyone will let me do it and give me their time to do it -- I should do it.' And so, I'm doing it." The married father of four children went on to say his new TV series is based "loosely on my experiences." "And I don't want to say too much because I don't want my kids to think every time a kid does something goofy on the show that it's a reflection on them," he said.

LOOSE LIPS:

"I have finally learned how to put the wall between one thing and the other. I've been much happier since then."

Annette Funicello dead at 70

Pop-culture icon Annette Funicello died of complications from multiple sclerosis Monday at Mercy Southwest Hospital in Bakersfield, Calif., her family said. She was 70. Funicello was known for her roles on the 1950s TV series "The Mickey Mouse Club" and in several 1960s teen beach movies co-starring Frankie Avalon. She also sang the hit songs "Tall Paul" and "Pineapple Princess." "She's on her toes dancing in heaven... no more MS. My brothers and I were there, holding her sweet hands when she left us," Funicello's daughter, Gina Gilardi, said in a statement to TV's "Extra" entertainment news program. Funicello had been in a coma and was taken off of life support Monday, "Extra" said. The actress confirmed in 1992 she had been suffering from MS for years. She lost the ability to walk in 2004 and to speak in 2009.

Gilbert and Perry get engaged

U.S. actress and television personality Sara Gilbert announced her engagement to songwriter Linda Perry on her daytime chat program "The Talk." Gilbert, 38, has been dating the 47-year-old former lead singer of 4 Non Blondes since late 2011. Gilbert explained on Monday's edition of "The Talk" how her girlfriend last week arranged for a band to play their song, The Cure's "Love Song," while they were on a picnic in a Los Angeles park. Perry then put on a series of shirts, which said "Will," "You," "Marry," "Me" "?" and presented Gilbert with a ring, while their mothers and friends waited nearby for Gilbert's answer, which was yes. "I was like, 'Well, yeah, after that spectacle, how could I not?'" Gilbert quipped. "I think that's it and it's like the most amazing proposal ever," she said, adding 1980s pop icon John Waite then showed up to sing her favorite song, "Missing You," making the experience even more memorable. The former "Roseanne" star has two children from a previous relationship.
