Sometimes, for men and women, it's hard to know what rules to follow when it comes to fashion. Here are six basic rules that can be applied to any situation for men!

1. Always match your belt with your shoes.
Keep it simple. It's best to stay with traditional colors, such as black, dark brown, or a rich tan. Other colors are too difficult to match. If you're wearing jeans and sneakers, try a casual belt or one made of fabric.
Tip: Do not wear suspenders and belts together!

2. Matching ties and shirts
Ties and shirts of the same colors or slightly different colors are a thing of the past! Mix it up! Experiment! Try to avoid novelty ties since they are constantly changing. Ties with polka dots, stripes, plaid patterns, or diagonal strips however are a staple. They are always acceptable!
Tip: Clip on ties are a no, no. How you tie a knot says something about you. Go with what is comfortable and see what kind feels right for you!

3. Pleat vs. Flat-Front Trousers
So many men avoid flat-front trousers because they think that they are more for athletic bodies, or because pleats are just more comfortable. The truth is though, most men can wear a flat-front trouser. If it feels a little tight, go to the next size and have a tailor take the waist in. This will still give you the sharp look and allow for more comfort in your choice of pants.

4. Socks
Your socks should match the color of your pants, although not necessarily the same shade. Wearing black is always acceptable of course. It's okay to have some fun with it too. Stripes, patterns, etc are also great, just as long as they're in a similar color as your pants.
Tip: White socks should only be worn when you're going to the gym.

5. Watches
Watches are the most important accessory a man can own. Invest in one good one to match your taste and lifestyle. If you like to wear different watches, get watches that are appropriate for what you're wearing. Also, match the band of your watches with your shoes if possible!

6. Eyeglasses
Eyeglasses can be more than just a necessary accessory. Make sure you get ones that compliment your face, but also express your personality. A couple pairs can be bought and switched out for what you're wearing or what activities you are doing. This can also be applied to sunglasses as well!

If you stick with these main staples, then you can have a fashionable, successful wardrobe for any occasion!
