Jed York becomes 49ers' chief executive officer

-San Francisco 49ers executive Jed York has a new title:
chief executive officer. The 49ers say York, son of owner
John York, has assumed the new role in a reorganization of
the team's front office and business department. San Francisco
finished 8-8 this season and missed the playoffs for the
seventh straight year. Andy Dolich will be leaving the team
as chief operating officer but will remain a senior adviser
to Jed York during the transition. The 49ers are creating a
new position of chief marketing officer in an effort to gain
more support and sponsorship as they try to build a new
stadium. The general manager, chief financial officer,
executive vice president of football administration and
CMO will report to Jed York.

Broncos assistant Dennison joining Houston staff

Broncos assistant coach Rick Dennison has agreed to become
Houston's offensive coordinator, reuniting him with Texans
coach Gary Kubiak. Dennison tells the Denver Post and
Houston Chronicle that it's hard to leave Denver but the
chance to work with Kubiak again is too good to pass up.
Dennison was an assistant coach in Denver for 15 years,
spending the last nine seasons as the offensive line coach.
He and Kubiak both played for Denver in the 1980s, and both
were assistants under former Broncos coach Mike Shanahan.
Dennison replaces Shanahan's son Kyle, who will be joining
his father on the Washington Redskins staff.

AP source: Redskins hire Haslett to coach defense

Jim Haslett agreed Tuesday to become the Washington Redskins'
defensive coordinator, the second major hire for new coach
Mike Shanahan. A person familiar with the negotiations told
The Associated Press about the move on condition of anonymity
because the team hasn't made an announcement. Haslett was the
head coach of the New Orleans Saints from 2000-05 and interim
coach for the St. Louis Rams in 2008 after Scott Linehan was
fired. He has also been a defensive coordinator for the Rams,
Saints and Pittsburgh Steelers. Haslett spent last season as
head coach of the Florida Tuskers of the new United Football
League. Haslett arrived Monday at Redskins Park to interview
with Shanahan. He replaces Greg Blache, who has been with the
Redskins for six seasons and is expected to retire.
Shanahan, hired last week to replace Jim Zorn, has now both
coordinators in place. His son, Kyle, will be the offensive
coordinator.

Jets WR Edwards in court, misses practice

New York Jets wide receiver Braylon Edwards is in Cleveland for
a court appearance while the team practices for its AFC
divisional playoff game against San Diego Chargers. Edwards
was at a Cleveland court Tuesday after pleading not guilty
in November to a misdemeanor assault charge after he was
accused of punching a man outside a downtown nightclub.
The former Browns receiver was traded to the Jets two days
after he was accused of punching a friend of NBA star LeBron
James on Oct. 5. Edwards is expected to return to the Jets'
facility later Tuesday, participate in team meetings and
receive the game plan for the matchup at San Diego on Sunday.

Bengals re-sign defensive coordinator Zimmer

The Cincinnati Bengals have re-signed Mike Zimmer as defensive
coordinator after two years of improvement under his guidance.
The team, which ranked 27th in the 2007 NFL yardage rankings,
rose to fourth in Zimmer's second year as the Bengals won the
AFC North Division. The defense gave up 301.4 yards a game and
finished sixth in scoring defense at 18.4 points. Coach
Marvin Lewis said in statement Tuesday that Zimmer's signing
helps provide continuity. Contract terms weren't announced.
The 2010 season will be Zimmer's 11th as an NFL defensive
coordinator. He has coached for Dallas and Atlanta.

Browns' Quinn to avoid foot surgery

Cleveland Browns president Mike Holmgren says a foot
specialist has recommended that quarterback Brady Quinn does
not need foot surgery. Quinn sustained a Lisfranc injury
on his left foot against Kansas City on Dec. 20. On Tuesday,
Quinn visited Dr. Robert Anderson in Charlotte, N.C. Holmgren
said it was his understanding that Anderson does not feel
Quinn needs an operation. Holmgren said Quinn will return
to Cleveland next week to be examined by the team's medical
staff. If surgery is required, a Lisfranc foot injury can
sideline a player for months. Holmgren, who helped develop
NFL quarterbacks Joe Montana, Steve Young and Brett Favre,
has watched tape of Quinn but said it is too early to make
any determination on his potential.

A primary benefit of exercising with a Bodytrends exercise ball
as opposed to exercising directly on a hard flat surface is that

core body muscles - the abdominal muscles and back muscles - are
the focus of exercise ball fitness programs.

Crennel spoke to Giants, focused on Chiefs

Former Cleveland Browns coach Romeo Crennel has spoken to the
New York Giants by telephone about their vacant defensive
coordinator's job but is giving the Kansas City Chiefs the
first shot at hiring him. Crennel's agent, Joe Linta, said in
an e-mail to The Associated Press on Tuesday that Crennel
talked to the Giants on Monday. Linta said Crennel is focused
on becoming the Chiefs' defensive coordinator. Chiefs coach
Todd Haley has yet to clarify the status of current defensive
coordinator Clancy Pendergast, who is still on the staff.
Last week, the Chiefs hired former Notre Dame coach Charlie
Weis as offensive coordinator. Weis previously was the
offensive coordinator in New England under Bill Belichick
at the same time Crennel coordinated the defense. Chiefs
general manager Scott Pioli was the Patriots' director of
player personnel when Weis and Crennel were coordinators.
The Giants also interviewed Bills interim head coach Perry
Fewell for defensive coordinator, which opened when rookie
coordinator Bill Sheridan was fired the day after the regular
season ended. Fewell also interviewed for the defensive
coordinator's job with the Chicago Bears. New York gave up
427 points, ranking it third from the bottom in the NFL.
Only the Detroit Lions and St. Louis Rams gave up more
points. Opponents scored at least 40 points in five games,
the first time that has happened to the Giants since 1966.
The Giants also fired defensive line coach Mike Waufle.
